Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and beverages provided by Southern Spice Catering and Events.
6:00 PM Showtime with the following historians/authors:
Dr. Steve Wise and Dr. Larry Rowland. Steve Wise was the director of the Parris Island Museum for like 46 years and is the most authoritative person on the US Civil War in the country. His long time friend Dr. Larry Rowland is a retired history professor from the University of SC (he knows more about Beaufort County History than any one else). Larry wrote three books about Beaufort County history extending from 1514 thru 2006. Steve Wise co-authored one of those books that included the Civil War years.
Loanna Graves Sellars. Loanna runs the Lowcountry Gullah Foundation that spends much of their effort focusing on the problem of Heirs Property in the SC Lowcountry. She will talk about how the former enslaved people in Bluffton became land owners after the Civil War. She is in the process of writing a book that she hopes will be in print by the time this event occurs.
Michael Reynolds will speak about “new” Bluffton history that is associated with the Revolutionary War that no one seems to know about.
A very interesting evening for all!
Cost: $15.00; additional donations accepted; proceeds to the Waddell Mariculture Center.
